Ann Arbor District Library, located in Westgate Shopping Center that originally opened in 1977, was not only completely remodeled to its new contemporary design, but quadrupled in size and won the coveted AIA design of the year award for. Lovell Contractors, Inc. worked closely with Hobbs & Black Architects on a design build basis to keep the design as the Architect imagined it, with keeping material and design implement costs within the AADL's budget.
This renovation included the central main information desk, kids reading pods on the wall, circular reading area for hosting guest authors to read their novels and kid stories, Meeting rooms, large student study center, (13) public computer terminals, private aluminum storefront study rooms, study area with a stone fireplace, baby stroller / coat storage and many more amazing amenities.
The remodel included gutting the original layout, to make way for the new updated design that included LED lighting, open ceiling concept, new floating cloud acoustical drops, luxury vinyl and carpet tile flooring, live edge walnut information desk, natural stone tile, power and data outlets throughout, as well as USB phone charging. This space was also directly connected the new Sweetwater's Coffee and Tea at the main entry.
